What is a
Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)?
Why does it matter?
Where did we begin?
Institutional data
 & student learning data
Our QEP development process used by the
 QEP Development Committee

Key campus partners

Student Advisory Team and
Focus Groups

Faculty Work Group
LIFE WAS SO SIMPLE WHEN I WAS A
FIRST-YEAR STUDENT
What changes in the
second-year?
(aka the ‘sophomore
slump’)
What can we do to support second-year
Students?
1.
Actively
 engage students
in the second
year & “normalize” the common
challenges
2.
Create opportunities for
exploration
3.
Support them finding ways to
connect
4.
Invite
discovery
Our proposed QEP:
Find Your Fit in the Second
Year: Inquire, Explore, Discover
Features include:
1.
3-credit hour course (elective hours)
2.
Taught by faculty with a coordinated “integrative
advising” component
3.
Small seminar format
4.
Independent,
 i
nquiry-guided intellectual activities
focused around an academically-rich theme or topic
5.
Recruitment of second year students who are
undecided,
pre-unit or are “in transition”
