Enhancing Snow and Wet Grip Performance of C3 SRTTs - ETRTO's Innovative Approach

ETRTO unveils a new design for C3 SRTTs to address limitations in snow performance and enhance wet grip stability. The revamped tread pattern features sipes for improved performance on snow without compromising wet grip. Through rigorous test campaigns, ETRTO aims to ensure high performance stability and reproducibility in varying conditions, setting a new standard for tire approval in severe snow conditions.

Background Background Regulatory framework The current C3 SRTTs 19.5 and 22.5 are used as reference tyres for snow grip and wet adhesion performance in UN Reg.117: F2871-16 for the size 245/70R19.5 and referred to as "SRTT19.5" F2870-16 for the size 315/70R22.5 and referred to as "SRTT22.5". Snow grip index threshold for C3 (1.25) shall be passed to type approve a tyre for use in severe snow conditions, according to an acceleration test method (Annex 7) Wet Grip index threshold for C3 shall be passed to type approve a tyre Saturday, April 6, 2024 The European Tyre and Rim Technical Organization C3_SRTT_New_Design 3 May contain confidential and/or proprietary information.
