WHAT IT CAN DO Make known item / database / journal searches better
WHAT IT CAN DO For patrons who might use the catalog search box as a site search, direct them to library information. Image from Aaron Tay s Blog: http://musingsaboutlibrarianship.blogspot.com/2017/08/5-things-you-can-do-with-resource.html
WHAT IT CAN DO Highlight your reference librarians, subject specialists, and/or database experts! Image from Aaron Tay s Blog: http://musingsaboutlibrarianship.blogspot.com/2017/08/5-things-you-can-do-with-resource.html
CONS Trigger words / Keywords / Tags have to be exact. Partial searches are not supported. Have to figure out the most common searches by going through search logs to see what words or phrases patrons are searching for that are getting zero hits.
SEARCH RESULT REPORTS IN PRIMO ANALYTICS Log into Primo Back Office > Click on Primo Analytics Under Shared Folders, click your institution s folder > Open your reports folder Each institution has these three reports the office has created: Top 10 Searches of Prev Month Top 100 Searches Ever Zero Results Prev 6 Months Use these reports or create your own to see what your patrons are searching for and having difficulty finding results and/or getting an overwhelming amount of results
TOP 10 SEARCHES OF PREVIOUS MONTH See what terms patrons have searched for. If they are getting tons of results, recommend a database, libguide, or reference librarian to help them narrow down. Can use the Top 100 Searches Ever report in the same way
ZERO RESULTS PREVIOUS 6 MONTHS See what terms patrons have searched for. If they are getting no results, recommend a database, libguide, or reference librarian to help them. Keep in mind Hard to create trigger words or phrases for every possible journal or search Getting no hits can be the result of a spelling mistake Possibly a lot of ISBN searches or exact title searches get zero results
NOW WHAT? Enable and Set up the Resource Recommender in the Primo Back Office See instructions and demo Note: There is a limit of three recommendations at the top of the brief results screen. You can specify multiple keywords for a recommendation by separating them with a semicolon. DALNET office has created generic images for database, guides, and people. You can also use a person s picture in the person recommendation box. You can also import an Excel file of resources and keywords. Ex Libris has a pre- populated one.
