Learning outcomes After completing this lesson, we will be able to prepare for the S.S.C examination
1. Change the sentences according to directions. 1 10=10 a) The students studying regularly can expect a good result. (Make it a complex sentence) b) But most of our students are inattentive to their studies. (Make it negative sentence) c) They waste their valuable time idly. (Use passive voice) d) Wasting time is harmful for them. (Make it interrogative sentence) e) By repeating this activity, they make a poor result. (Make it a complex sentence) f) Who loves them then? (Make it an assertive sentence) g) They are treated badly even by their family members. (Use active voice) h) If a student fails in the examination, he suffers from inferior complex. ( Make it simple sentence) i) No other student in the class is as bad as a failed student. (Use superlative degree) j) So a student should be aware of studying regularly and attentively so that he can do well in the examination. (Make it a simple sentence)
Answer-1 a) The students who study regularly can expect a good result. b) But most of our students are not attentive to their studies. c) Their valuable time is wasted idly by them. d) Isn t wasting time is harmful for them? e) If they repeat this activity, they will make a poor result. f) Then nobody loves them. g) Even their family members treat them badly. h) By failing in the examination, a student suffers from inferior complex. i) A failed student is the worst student in the class. j) So a student should be aware of studying regularly and attentively to do well in the examination.

Answer-2 a) Very few men in his time were as rich as Haji Mohammad Mohsin. b) It is the district Hooghly in West Bengal and He was born there in 1732. c) He was not an impious man. d) He always thought about others happiness. e) Didn t he spend money for others well being? f) He is nobler than most other men in our society. g) Once it was at night when a thief entered his house. h) The thief was caught red handed by him. i) Being very afraid, the thief was trembling in fear. j) It was noticed by Mohsin that the thief was very hungry and feeble.

(Complex) h) The first friend climbed up a tree without thinking about his friend.(Compound) i) What a selfish friend he was! (Assertive) j) The latter was not able to climb the tree. (Affirmative)
Answer-3 a) Friendship is the best relation. b) But we should not believe all friends equally. c) We may have some selfish friends. d) A selfless enemy in not as harmful as a selfish friend. e) Everybody knows the story of two friends passing through a forest. f) They loved each other and they were talking about their love. g) Suddenly a bear came there which was growling. h) The first friend climbed up a tree but he did not think about his friend. i) He was a very selfish friend. j) The latter was unable to climb the tree.

(Make it negative) For which, he was rewarded. d) As he was honest, everybody trusted him. (Make simple) e) Being a trusted person, he was highly respectable everywhere. (Make it compound) f) All his children have been educated and it is the best reward of his honesty. (Make it complex) g) He is a successful man. (Make it negative) h) Nobody in our village is as happy as him. (Make it comparative) i) I always follow him. (Make it passive) j) I cannot help being honest in my life. (Make it affirmative)
Answer-4 a) Isn t honesty is a great virtue? b) An honest man in a society is the most respectable man. c) Mr. Ali was not a dishonest govt. officer. d) Everybody trusted him for his honesty. e) He was a trusted person and so he was highly respectable everywhere. f) It is the best reward of his honesty that all his children have been educated. g) He is not an unsuccessful man. h) He is happier than anybody in our village. i) He is always followed by me. j) I must be honest in my life.

(Make it passive) c) Literacy and education are different things. (Make it negative) d) Literacy is the ability to reading and writing. (Make it complex) e) But education covers development of mind and taste which is done through study. (Make it simple) f) Literacy is so important that it is called the platform of education. (Make it compound) g) But the rate of our literacy in not high. (Make it affirmative). h) Our rate of literacy is less than that in Sri Lanka and India. (Positive) i) So, it is the duty of the educated people to contribute in literacy. (Interrogative) j) The government must be sincere to eradicate illiteracy (Negative)
Answer-5 a) Illiteracy is the greatest problem in Bangladesh. b) All the rest problems of the country are created for illiteracy. c) Literacy and education are not the same things. d) Literacy is the ability for which we can read and write. e) But education covers development of mind and taste through study. f) Literacy is very important and it is called the platform of education. g) But the rate of our literacy is low. h) Our rate of literacy is not as much as in Sri Lanka and India. i) So, isn t it the duty of the educated people to contribute in literacy? j) The government cannot but be sincere to eradicate illiteracy.
