In psychology emotion is often defined as a complex state of feeling that results in physical and psychological changes that influence thought and behavior,
The word resilience comes from the Latin word resilio which means to bounce back or retaliate It is a person s mental ability to recover quickly from misfortune, cope with adversity, adapt to change or overcome challenges. It is a mental reservoir of strength that people draw on in times of need so they do not fall apart.
Certain events in your life might be painful and difficult, they do not have to determine the outcome of your life Its helps you develop a mechanism for protection against experiences which could be overwhelming It helps you focus on areas of your life you can control, modify and grow bringing improvement as you go through challenges
It helps us maintain balance in our lives during difficult or stressful periods It can also protect us from developing some mental health difficulties and issues
Vision- What can you see Composure- Regulating emotions when big or little things happen Reasoning- Creativity and innovative problem solving helps when facing challenges. Tenacity-Persistence is key. Collaboration- Having the ability to develop and have meaningful long term interpersonal relationship. Health- Developing healthy lifestyle and choices that boost immunity.
Recognizing the fact that our thoughts influence our actions Acknowledging stress and be willing to effectively cope with it Being open to changes and flexibility while adapting to new situations. Accepting that by changing the way we react to stress, a lot of difference can be made. Embracing self by building self compassion, self esteem, self acceptance.
Being mindful and focused on the present Embrace healthy thoughts-Do not be overwhelmed. Avoid negative outlets-Do not mask your pain with alcohol or drugs Find purpose and move towards your goal one step at a time. Foster wellness- Self care is legitimate practice for mental health and building resilience
Building positive connection Do not isolate yourself, join a group. You can find hope and realize you are not alone. Seek help- sometimes you cannot manage things by yourself. Contact a mental health professional.
Write down thoughts that currently bother you, then opposite it try to replace these negative thoughts by positive ones e.g. I can never move on Maybe I should give it a try This shall never pass - I have seen worse times passing
Keep a gratitude journal. Write down 3 things you are grateful for everyday
Self awareness is the ABC of our mind. A Antecedent or the cause of our situation B Behaviour or the way we have chosen to react to it C Consequence that our actions and emotions are likely to bring Identifying the ABC s of every stressful encounter makes a person more resilient and gives the power to deal with adversity effectively.
