How beautiful was the ending to that last chapter! After all the trouble and danger of travelling through the darkness and climbing on the cliff edge, finally Lil and Pepe had returned Kyky s heart to the tomb it shared with Lysandra and Maya. How magical that the sunlight shone right in as well. After such a happy moment, I hope the characters can return to safety without being seen, and that Tulip gets the help she needs for that bite. Comprehension questions for Chapter 20 How much have you understood? Remember to refer back to the text to find the answers to these questions. You can write your answers on any piece of paper at home, or discuss them with someone but your answers must be in full sentences. My answers are on the next slide. 1. Why do the children replace the boulder? 2. Why were Lil and Pepe crying when they came out of the tomb? 3. How did you feel when you found out the man was Alex? 4. Why is Mrs Mendoza so angry with Alex? 5. Do you agree with Alex s decision not the return home? Why?
Here are the answers I would give the questions set. I have written my answer in blue and my explanation of how I know think this is in green. 1. Why do the children replace the boulder? The children drag the boulder back to cover the entrance of the tomb in a hope that no one will ever enter it again and it will stay hidden. This should stop the curse retuning and give Kyky, Maya and Lysandra the peace they deserve. It doesn t explain this in this chapter but the it was hinted to in the last chapter. 2. Why were Lil and Pepe crying when they came out of the tomb? Lil and Pepe were crying inside the tomb and when they came out for a number of reasons. Lil was hugely relieved that it was done, what they had seen inside was so magical and it was such an important thing that they did. Also, the valley looked beautiful as they sat for a moment. Sometimes, lots of emotions just need to be let out! My understanding of this chapter and the last. 3. How did you feel when you found out the man was Alex? This is your own answer. I had my suspicions earlier, with him getting on the train and the Ouija board. I also made these PowerPoints before reading all of the story so I had glimpsed it as a spoiler! 4. Why is Mrs Mendoza so angry with Alex? Mrs Mendoza was angry with Alex because he didn t come home when he could and so the family had thought he was dead when he wasn t. Page 9. You might also have mentioned about the babies she lost, but I don t think she was angry because he was there for the Washington Post. 5. Do you agree with Alex s decision not the return home? Why? This is also your opinion. I don t agree because it upset his family and he could have possibly let them know he was alive but that he was different. I understand that he felt ashamed and it would have been hard for him though. I m pleased they are back together now!
