  1. 2nd Raising Awareness Event of the LEAP4FNSSA Project Drivers and Dynamics of Creating an Enabling Environment for the FNSSA Platform Norhan El-Dallal, Project Manager -Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Egypt

  2. 2 Background In order to establish a sustainable Platform as described in the FNSSA Roadmap, synergies and coherence between stakeholders must be augmented. Establishing a network and a collaboration mechanism between diverse stakeholders from two continents demands tailoring the FNSSA partnership to identify the intersections between all the needs, and focus on how the various strengths can be connected to create synergies.

  3. 3 Key Findings and Lessons Learnt from West Africa Workshop: Initiated the process towards a West Africa Alliance on FNSSA that would feed into the envisaged overall AU-EU coordination platform towards food security Exposed young entrepreneurs to investors, scientists and political decision makers to engage in the evolvement of the businesses and develop partnerships in the field of FNSSA. Governance Framework for the FNSSA Partnership Communication & Functional Contributions Stakeholder Involvement Role of entrepreneurs in fostering Knowledge Establishing farmers cooperatives Capacity building, training & skill transfer. Based on enhancing public-private partnership Strengthening collaboration between actors across the value chain Innovation Hubs as engines of change. Creating database /platform of Agri- contents opportunities at regional level, such as Scaling up of agro-production across value chain, access to data, equipment and inputs, Market access and funding

  4. 4 Key Findings and Lessons Learnt from 1st Raising Awareness Event: Propose methods for increasing the resilience of rural areas to withstand crises Promote full implementation and application of an inclusive FNSSA platform and discuss the role of an inclusive model in overcoming challenges in the region. Governance Framework for the FNSSA Partnership Communication & Functional Contributions Stakeholder Involvement Establish a network and a collaboration mechanism of (Institutions, Private Sector, and funders) from both continents. Participation of European and African youth in policy dialogue. Reaching out to European and African entrepreneurs Growing importance of private sector investment & trade Apply a participatory approach and ensure that the mandate meets the needs of the partners from both continents Co-create research agendas Ownership, accountability and sustainability Avoid duplication with existing initiatives and build on existing alliances Strengthening access to financial products and more funding for scaling innovation. Connect European and African Tech Ventures focusing on Agriculture and establishment of Integrated Agribusiness Hubs (IAH)

  5. 5 Objectives Highlight the added value of the proposed FNSSA bi-continental IRC platform Present the platform and the potential services and functionalities Present examples from the current landscape of existing platforms and programs in an attempt to avoid duplication and build on existing initiatives. Discuss the EU AU FNSSA R&I Partnership as a Game Changer - Moving out from the usual aid paradigm to a real partnership between the two continents Align on AU-EU priorities in the FNSSA field based on agendas of both parties Discuss the role of different stakeholders in shaping the bi-continental platform

Discussions The platform will fulfil three main objectives: Create synergies between the many R&I programmes, initiatives and actors with the aim of building on their experience Reduce the hassle of identifying partners in R&I, finding appropriate funding opportunities and contributing to relevant policy developments. Boost innovation by showcasing solutions that work, supporting creativity and expertise of all stakeholders.

  8. Discussions Best Practices African-European partnerships needs time to build trust; and time for cultural integration (Africa and Europe; institutional practice differences, etc.). Communication (internal and external) is a catalytic element for Multi- stakeholder platform to keep the motivation in the consortium. MSPs have several positive results, including: policy changes, increased yields and incomes for small-holder farmers and more sustainable agricultural practices. MSPs consider agricultural learning processes in value-chain contexts as being key to building trans-formative capacities of intended beneficiaries.

Discussions FNSSA at the center of the 2030 Agenda and the Africa Agenda 2063 Food and agriculture are key to achieving the entire set of SDGsand Agenda 2063 Achieving Agenda 2030 and 2063 Agenda will be affected by how successful we are in working together . These interconnected Agenda means actors must partner and share knowledge to support countries COVID-19 has prompted all of us to rethink the way we produce, process and consume food. Response and recovery heighten our awareness of urgent need to adopt holistic, coordinated approach to build back better

Discussions Catalyzing Private Sector Connecting Innovation, education and business creation Innovation and enhanced use of technologies, digitalization, data and analytics to inform decisions by policy makers, producers, private firms, investors, development partners, consumers etc Build a consumer-centric connected food system developing a digital food supply network with consumers and industry as equal partners Engage in a dialogue with the food industry and co-create the future food system

  11. 11 Key Findings and Lessons Learnt from 2nd Raising Awareness Event: Governance Framework for the FNSSA Partnership Create synergies between the many R&I programmes, initiatives and actors with the aim of building on their experience Capacity to reflect and learn together is crucial in MSPs. It creates a shared vision among partners and allows to re-thing the strategy. Effective M&E to monitor targets, measure progress, and take corrective actions Bridge the missing middle between global scale and national level capacities Sustainability of platform
