Teaching Students Skills Depending on the courses you teach you will need to teach your students skills such as: reading for comprehension writing essays, reports, or assignments tackling a novel mathematics problem how to revise etc. This webinar proposes that you: Look at assessments, tasks, and the nature of your subject to determine which skills you need to teach. Then plan how to teach these skills, with content, in double decker lessons
Skills are processes that have been practised E.g. Essay writing using the art/design process Critical thinking, evaluation analysis analysing an argument etc
Effective teaching of study skills [Hattie, Biggs and Purdie (1996)] Teach the study skills up front Mean effect size 0.45 Integrate the study skills into the teaching of real content, and with a reflective approach: Mean Effect size 0.77
