We responded to a Department of Labor request for
proposal (RFP).  They liked what they read and we were
awarded a $15M TAACCCT grant.  Now that we have
the money, why does your consortium college need to
develop a work plan?
The proposal that was submitted addressed 
what
 and
why
.  It did not specify 
how
 each sub-grantee would
accomplish these goals, which leaves room for creativity
and individuality.

The goals and associated deliverables we outlined in the
proposal were 
collective
. When we accepted the $15M, we
essentially promised to meet those goals. Without an explicit
plan, it will be difficult for you to gage if you’re headed in the
right direction and if you’re on target to meet your goals.
 
You have a responsibility to one another, the
Department of Labor and the public, to ensure
that your actions are 
planned
 and 
deliberate
,
guaranteeing that your time and money has
been allocated wisely.

You are not obligated to use the attached work plan template,
but the format you do decide to use should include the following
elements:

Work Plan Structure
Each large 
goal
 will have a series of smaller 
objectives
 with
corresponding 
tasks
. Each objective will have associated
completion dates, responsible parties, possible barriers, etc.  Your
objectives, and any goals you choose to add, will be specific to
your college and should account for the uniqueness of your site.

the next slide.

Writing Goals
The goals for the CAMI grant have already been spelled out in the proposal and
reiterated in your MOU. You should absolutely add more goals as needed. Case in
point, I added the goal called “Hire CAMI Personnel” to my personal work plan even
though it’s not an overall CAMI goal that’s spelled out in the proposal.
In addition to addressing the preexisting CAMI goals outlined on the next slide, I would
suggest adding the following goals to your campus work plan:
1.
Hire personnel
2.
Create marketing plan
3.
Develop curriculum
4.
Outline recruitment plan (include the WIBs)
5.
Complete DOL reporting
6.
Develop internal document review plan
Most of your goals will
require support and
input from other staff
within your college

Important Reminders
 
1.
While a single person should write your college work plan, in order to get
buy-in and support, development of the plan should include a 
group
 of
people (e.g. HR, Finance, Academic Dean, Marketing, etc.).
 
2.
I would suggest that your work plan be seen and approved, at minimum,
by your Advanced Manufacturing Director/Coordinator, Academic Dean
and President.
 
3.
Your college’s progress will be measured by your work plan.
 
4.
Your work plan progress will be reviewed by the following:
CAMI consortium members,
College Presidents in a collective quarterly report, and
The Department of Labor during our monitoring visit.

Establish a schedule to review your work plan today!
Michelle will be at your college between July 21st – July 24
th
to review your progress on your work plan and will provide
any requested or required guidance
