DRAWING A SAXON HOUSE Well, there are none left to see now and we only know what Saxons houses may have looked like from excavations of Anglo Saxon villages, such as the one at West Stow in the east of England. Here, an early Anglo-Saxon village (c.420-650AD) has been carefully reconstructed where it was excavated. Using clues from the what was discovered, archaeologists have reconstructed the houses as they may have looked about 1,500 years ago. Have a look at some more pictures of the recreated houses here: http://homeworkhelp.stjohnssevenoaks.com/saxons/houses.htm#villages
DRAWING A SAXON HOUSE Use the link below to help you draw a 3d cube / cuboid. There are two different methods on the clip. Do not worry about the shading at the moment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7nYSsVFQWo
DRAWING A SAXON HOUSE Vanishing Point Challenge: The next challenge is to explore vanishing point. You can use vanishing point to make the far side of the house 'appear' further away. Watch the video links about how to use perspective. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4t8ZxcazCQ Here is another video that may help you with your drawings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVxgqmGYHa8
DRAWING A SAXON HOUSE Using Shading to Show Different Building materials What materials were used to build a typical Saxon house? How could you use pencil shading to show these materials? To help watch this video and then have a go yourself at creating a wooden effect https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-_2nSCYu_w
DRAWING A SAXON HOUSE Using Shading to Show Different Building materials Have a look at this house. Have a go at using shading to create the thatched roof. Have a go at create a small stone wall.
DRAWING A SAXON HOUSE Now use your skills to draw your own Anglo Saxon House Think carefully about what to put around the house and in the background
