  1. Common Mistakes in Grammar BY ASST. PROF. ESTABRAQ R. (PHD.) ENGLISH CLASSES COLLEGE OF BASIC EDUCATION AL-MUSTANSIRIYAH UNIVERSTY

  2. Common Mistakes I love to write, but I m not so crazy about grammar. Learning about words that get misplaced isn t my idea of fun. It is well-worth a few minutes of your time to refresh the basics and make sure you don t fall into one of the problematic grammar traps. Here are common grammar mistakes that can kill your credibility:

  3. 1. Subject-Verb Agreement Errors The subject and verb of a sentence must agree with one another in number whether they are singular or plural. If the subject of the sentence is singular, its verb must also be singular; and if the subject is plural, the verb must also be plural. E.g.1 /Incorrect:An important part of my life have been the people who stood by me. Correct:An important part of my life has been the people who stood by me.

  4. I walk to the store and I bought milk. Walk is a present tense verb. Bought is a past tense verb. "Bought" should be "buy," or "walk" should be "walked," since these two events occur at the same time. I will eat fish for dinner and drank milk. "Will eat" is a future tense verb, but "drank" is a past tense verb. Since the dinner is going to happen in the future, it is not possible that the milk was drunk already.
