The Salvation Army's Christmas Kettle Campaign, starting in 1891, has been crucial in funding Emergency Disaster Services in Ottawa. This campaign has enabled the deployment of EDS teams to provide immediate assistance during disasters and emergencies, offering food, water, clothing, service referrals, and emotional support to those in need. Additionally, initiatives like the Nourish program and sending children to summer camps showcase The Salvation Army's commitment to supporting the community, fostering growth, and providing opportunities for those in need.

  2. The Christmas Kettle tradition began in 1891 when Salvation Army Captain Joseph McFee wanted to provide a free Christmas dinner to some of San Francisco s poorest people. In order to raise the money Captain McFee placed a large crab pot on the dock of the busy Oakland ferry landing while a smaller brass urn was placed on a stand in the waiting room. He raised enough money to provide Christmas dinner to 1000 people. https://salvationarmy.ca/ontariocentraleast/files/2017/11/SA_GHT_red_hrz_300-300x205.jpg
