Cell City Project: Explore the Intriguing World of Cell Organelles through Creative Analogy

Cell City Project

Assignment:
Floating around in the cytoplasm of a cell are small structures called organelles. Like
the organs in your own body, each one carries out a specific function necessary for the
cell to survive. In order to survive, the cell must be able to interact with its
surroundings, use energy, produce materials and manage waste.
1.
You will create a poster that compares a living
plant
cell or
animal
cell and its
organelles to a city, school, factory, ballpark, space station etc.
2.
The place you choose
must use energy, produce substances and manage
waste
. The organelles will represent the parts of your place that carry out these
processes
3.
It must have the shape of a plant cell or animal cell.
4.
All of the parts of the “city” should be labeled with the cell part and the analogy you
chose to represent it (put parentheses around the cell part). Your poster must be
colorful, neat and creative. It should be done on a piece of poster board. Have fun
designing your “cell city.” Be sure to include all of the organelles listed on the back
of your sheet and the appropriate analogies.

Dive into the fascinating realm of cell organelles through the engaging Cell City Project assignment, where students illustrate and compare them to various urban structures. Learn about the functions of organelles by likening them to elements of a city, emphasizing energy usage, material production, and waste management. The project encourages creativity and understanding of cellular processes in a fun and educational way.
