Celebration of the Eucharist - Catholic Education Week Reflections
Today's celebration of the Eucharist during Catholic Education Week reflects on our calling to love as people of joy. Drawing inspiration from Pope Francis, we are urged to encounter Jesus daily and let His love guide us in acts of service. The gathering hymns and readings further emphasize the message of faith and joy in our journey. Join in this spiritual encounter and embrace the joy of resurrection in service and love.

Celebration of the Eucharist Friday, May 10, 2024 Catholic Education Week
Greeting and Welcome Called to Love as People of Joy Today celebrate the gift of Catholic Education and we reflect on our calling to love as people of Joy. As we continue to journey through the Easter Season, let us reflect on the words of Pope Francis during his general audience this past November. Departing from his prepared text, Pope Francis said, "Today each one of us should take a bit of time and think: Jesus, you are within me. I want to encounter you each day. You are a person, not an idea. You are a companion on the journey, not a program. You are love that resolves so many problems. You are the starting point of evangelization. You, Jesus, are the source of joy." Let us be renewed by the joy of the Resurrection of Jesus and transform this joy into acts of love and service. Please join in the singing of our opening hymn: ___________________________

First Reading: Acts 18.9-18 A reading from the Acts of the Apostles. At Corinth one night the Lord said to Paul in a vision, Do not be afraid, but speak and do not be silent; for I am with you, and no one will lay a hand on you to harm you, for there are many in this city who are my people. He stayed there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them. But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a united attack on Paul and brought him before the tribunal. They said, This man is persuading people to worship God in ways that are contrary to the law.
First Reading: Acts 18.9-18 Just as Paul was about to speak, Gallio said to the Jews If it were a matter of crime or serious villainy, I would be justified in accepting the complaint of you Jews; but since it is a matter of questions about words and names and your own law, see to it yourselves; I do not wish to be a judge of these matters. And he dismissed them from the tribunal. Then all of them seized Sosthenes, the official of the synagogue, and beat him in front of the tribunal. But Gallio paid no attention to any of these things. After staying there for a considerable time, Paul said farewell to the believers and sailed for Syria, accompanied by Priscilla and Aquila. At Cenchreae he had his hair cut, for he was under a vow. The Word of the Lord. R. Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 47 The Response to the Psalm is: R. God is King of all the earth. Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout to God with loud songs of joy. For the Lord, the Most High, is awesome, a great king over all the earth. R.
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 47 R. God is King of all the earth. He subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet. He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves. R. God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet. Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. R.

Gospel: John 16.20-23a When Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father, he said to the disciples: Very truly, I tell you, you will weep and mourn, but the world will rejoice; you will have pain, but your pain will turn into joy. When a woman is in labour, she has pain, because her hour has come. But when her child is born, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy of having brought a human being into the world. So you have pain now; but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. On that day you will ask nothing of me. Very truly, I tell you, if you ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. The gospel of the Lord. R. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Prayer of the Faithful The response to each petition is: Lord, hear our prayer. For the Church and its leaders. May our commitment to the Gospel lead us to deepen our faith and trust in God. We pray to the Lord. R. Lord, hear our prayer. For our world and its leaders. May all people be treated with the dignity they deserve as God s children. We pray to the Lord. R. Lord, hear our prayer.
Prayer of the Faithful For all people of good will. That the entire human family may recognize our common bond to work for justice and the good of all peoples. We pray to the Lord. R. Lord, hear our prayer. For our Catholic schools. May we show God s mercy and love in the world. We pray to the Lord. R. Lord, hear our prayer.
