Mobile Libraries Day 2022 is set to be celebrated on Wednesday, 16th November, coinciding with Book Week Scotland. The day highlights the vital role mobile libraries play in combating social isolation and serving diverse communities in Scotland. With 49 mobile libraries in 22 local authority areas, these services reach over 3,000 stops and nearly 37,000 registered users. 2. Mobile Libraries Day 2022 Mobile Libraries Day 2022 falls on Wednesday 16 November, coinciding with Book Week Scotland (14 20 November). This is an opportunity to celebrate the wonderful job mobile libraries do in helping people out of social isolation an issue close to the hearts of the nation We know that the greatest resource of any library are the people who make up the unique and diverse communities that libraries serve but we also know that not everyone is able to visit their local library, and that mobile libraries play a key role in bridging this gap For those in rural areas or those who can t easily access their local library, our mobile library services can be a lifesaver, bringing books and resources directly to those who need them. That s why library teams at services which own a mobile library are encouraged to support MLD Our combined efforts will help ensure mobile library services continue to be a valued part of public library provision in Scotland. It will also ensure that policymakers and budget holders understand how mobile libraries contribute to local policies in a range of areas, such as children, communities, health and wellbeing, social isolation and learning and culture

About this toolkit This toolkit is designed to help library services, local authority and cultural trust communications teams to support Mobile Libraries Day 2022 by providing free to use assets which can be lifted for use, and even personalised for each service This toolkit contains key stats and facts, a quote from SLIC CEO Pamela Tulloch for use across media activity and suggested social media content and associated (editable) graphics The assets should help your team: o Celebrate Mobile Libraries Day (through media relations and social media activity) o Raise awareness of the value and impact of mobile library services for communities in Scotland o Promote mobile library services to local communities to attract new users and increase usage

Key messages o Mobile Libraries Day will be celebrated on Wednesday 16 November 2022, as part of Book Week Scotland, to highlight the value and impact of mobile library services o In Scotland, there are 49 mobile libraries in 22 local authority areas, serving over 3,000 mobile library stops with almost 37,000 registered mobile library users* *we appreciate the Covid-19 pandemic may have caused these numbers to change and welcome any updates o Mobile libraries help with reading, literacy and learning, and contribute towards overall economic, health and social wellbeing. They are greatly valued by users, who have described the service as a lifeline o Mobile libraries are much more than a book delivery system; they are a social, educational, recreational, health and cultural service with an unmatched geographical reach
