Slide Note

Hi, I’m Matt-----

In an OER initiative, finding allies outside the library is essential—we’ve heard some examples already today—but this can be easier said than done.  After all, it’s hard to persuade people to spend resources on a new program if that takes resources away from what they’re already doing.

At GVSU, the Libraries have been involved with open educational resources in our repository since at least 2012.

When we recently began reaching out to others on campus about doing more with OER, we discovered that we didn’t have to pitch new projects—

like us, other support units on campus already had services and resources that could support OER, and good reasons to do so.

Embodying values, seizing opportunities, and encouraging innovation, Grand Valley State University's Libraries, Scholarly Communications, and other support services join forces in the OER Initiative. Motivated by enhancing research, teaching, and technology support, the initiative receives backing from various campus entities like the Center for Scholarly & Creative Excellence and the Faculty Teaching and Learning Center. With a focus on expertise, resources, and relationships, this collaborative effort aims to drive OER adoption and student success.
