  1. What is resiliency? 1. The capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness. 2. The ability of a substance or object to spring back into shape; elasticity. Resilience protects our overall mental health and physical wellbeing. When a person builds resilience, it can help them navigate challenges and potentially increase a persons overall mental health and wellbeing.

  2. Five Resilience Factors Agency (#5) I have the ability, opportunity, and access to choose and to have a choice and voice. A resiliency goal focused on Agency is one that has supports and services in place to help a person identify choices collaboratively problem solve, identify what decisions they can make for their lives, and gives them a sense of hope.

  3. Five Resilience Factors Self-Esteem (#4) I have the ability, opportunity, and access to identify my likes and dislikes, to feel worthy and valued, and to effect meaningful change. A resilience goal focused on Self Esteem is one that has supports and services in place to help a person identify their personal preferences. Identify where, when and with whom they feels loved, valued and important. Identify how they can affect change.

  4. Five Resilience Factors External Support (#3) I have safe people and things (e.g., plant, pet) I can rely on for support. A resilience goal focused on External Supports is one that has supports and services in place to help a person have access and opportunity to have safe people and things that they can rely on for support.

  5. Five Resilience Factors Affiliation (#2) I am able to find and have a sense of belonging. A resilience goal focused on Affiliation is one that has supports and services in place that help a person utilize their talents and gifts to connect with a safe community and find belonging. The goal is community inclusion, and not separate segregated communities for people who share historical labels, stereotypes, and limitations placed on them.

  6. Five Resilience Factors YOU! (#1) (AKA: Positive Safe Adults) I have the ability, opportunity, and access to have positive experiences with safe adults, especially people in positions of authority. A resilience goal focused on Positive Safe Adults is one that has supports and services in place for a person to connect safe experiences to safe adults, especially people in positions of authority.
