Blue Ribbon Fisheries Technician - FY20 Project Details
Blue Ribbon Fisheries Technician project focuses on independently tackling sampling, facility, and administrative/data needs for high-profile waters in the NER, including High Uintas, BR reservoirs and streams, and Green River tailwater fisheries. Accomplishments in 2018 included various sampling activities and improvements in different water bodies. The emphasis is on increasing knowledge of high-profile waters to implement accurate management actions and increase public exposure to Blue Ribbon waters. The project requires funding for personal services, motorpool, and materials/supplies to adequately cover sampling and facility needs. Experienced staff are crucial due to the nature of tasks involved in the project.

Background NER does not have a BR biologist Project funded in FY17, FY19 Focus on: INDEPENDENTLY tackling sampling, facility, and administrative/data needs for high profile waters across the NER Focus on High Uintas, BR reservoirs and streams, Green River tailwater fisheries Assist with CRCT broodstocks and CRCT restoration Assist with tackling problems facing waters on the edge of BR status
2018 Accomplishments Red Fleet reservoir sampling Matt Warner/Caulder sampling Green River sampling Current Creek/Reservoir sampling Increased High Uintas sampling (fishery, bathymetry, data) IABAT stream access issues investigation, access, signing Strawberry River Duchesne River Currant Creek Pelican Lake improvements Assist with Willard walleye spawn Starvation Reservoir sampling and management planning Big Sandwash sampling and improvements
Blue Ribbon Emphasis Emphasis is on increasing knowledge of high profile waters that DWR aquatics staff does not have time to sample Sampling data used to implement accurate management actions Increase BR exposure to public (outreach events, BR water access)
Fiscal Details / Project Need $22101 Personal services WHY do we need this? To adequately cover all of NER s sampling and BR facility needs that the aquatics budget cannot cover I cannot trust or delegate many types of tasks to an intern You get what you pay for Experienced staff want to be paid $1292 Motorpool $600 Materials/supplies
