Arlingham Community Consultation GRCC is a charitable company that works with communities county wide to help them to identify the issues that are important to them, sharing with them the tools and the know how to address these. One strand in particular of work that we lead on is community led planning and consultation where to kick start this process we ask:- What are the issues important to your community? What methods are there to help you to identify what these are
GRCC was approached by Parish Council to help identify the issues that are important to the community of Arlingham. This involved a preliminary consultation to decide which of the 3 main community led planning options would be needed: Parish/ Green Parish Plans Community/ Village Design Statements Neighbourhood Development Plans GRCC gave a presentation on these
All community consultations need the following to be in place: Volunteers Budget - Costs associated Timescale need to consider this Outcome and issues to address
Arlingham consultation took place Jan 2024 47 attended - 37 people signed in Series of boards around room with topic headings where attendee s could post their views on the topics Comments were given on all the various headline subjects
An open day was held in the Village hall here is the main hall being set up before the event started

Transport and Travel 16 35% of households have 3+ cars, 40% have 2 cars, 20% have 1 car and 5% have no cars. 14 12 10 8 6 4 2 0 A car is essential, without it you are stuck Lights on Perry Way - excellent idea Cycle way to Frampton would be great, especially for children

What are the issues important to your community? What methods are there to help us to identify what these are A planning policy document produced by the community relating to land use and planning, some say in future development of your community Neighbourhood Development Plan Legal document carries weight It will be referred to when any planning applications for that area are received. It shapes new development and can contain such policies as: Provision of walking/cycling routes Utilities Housing Infrastructure local level - community shops, play areas, allotments Local green spaces Average 3-4 years to complete - 11k cost

What methods are there to help us to identify what these are The focus is on how development might look and not whether or where development should happen. Community Design Statement Describes its distinctive character in its surroundings Identifies the landscape setting, shape of settlement and nature of the buildings Draws together design principles based on that distinctive local character/sense of place

This will continue to impact people moving to Arlingham Should be better cycle route provision would help with other comments
Housing and Planning 190 properties, 145 are detached and 25 semi- detached. 23 are second addresses Disproportionate number of detached/ semi detached housing 12 10 8 6 4 2 0 Unaffordable for those starting out who come from village Important to have some younger families Encourage good development of old/existing buildings
Climate change resilience 11% of households live in fuel poverty 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 Flooding is a major long term issue that village should not ignore Grants for heating would cut oil use Scheme to encourage renewables would be good
Everything Else Any other issues you think are important for the parish / community? School Comms Church Shop Diversity Development Planning Events Heritage Contribution Evolution The communication is poor about any meetings etc, posters, signs? If secondary school provision and transport isn t sorted out families will not live here The village must continue to develop and not be frozen in era
Heritage Arlingham is running a campaign to restore the pound and has a Grade I listed 14th C Church Church Funding Pound Development Heritage trail Story Preservation Facilities Beautiful Church. Should be used as a village facility and not just Church All for preserving ancient heritage in village including landscape Pound project 10/10
COMMUNITY SPORT AND LEISURE Pub Shop Coop Activity Levels Hall Playground Children Variety 9% 33% of people in Arlingham have volunteered at least once in the last 12 months. 17% 4% 4% 9% What activities would you like to see in Arlingham? 31% 17% 9% Wonderful village hall, should be used more Pub is central to village life, we take it for granted .. Meetings like this more often so Arlingham parish can change for the better
