  1. Barry Primary & Nursery School Barry Primary & Nursery School Apprentice Headteacher

  2. Welcome Letter from Welcome Letter from the Governors the Governors Dear Prospective Candidate, Thank you for your interest in the position of Apprentice Headteacher at Barry Primary School. Our school prides itself on a warm, welcoming atmosphere where pupils feel safe and well cared for. We have a positive and happy learning environment, and we seek a Headteacher who shares our values and ambitions. You may currently be a deputy head and you are looking for your first headship or you may be looking for a new challenge but whoever you are, we want to appoint a person who has the vision, drive, resilience, and personality to build a bright new future for our school. You must be passionate and knowledgeable about the pursuit of teaching and learning in schools and have a love of working with children and willing to establish strong relationships with our parents and different people and organisations in our local community. Barry Primary School is a great opportunity for those wishing to seek further development in their career. We hope that you will come and have a look at our school and are encouraging visits prior to the 18 March. Please contact Alex Owens, Associate Headteacher at school to make arrangements. Yours faithfully, Dan Lister Chair of Governors

  3. More information about our school and opportunity More information about our school and opportunity Leading a school can be a daunting prospect, but for practitioners capable of thriving away from the classroom as well as within it, the role of Head Teacher can also offer an incredible opportunity to positively impact countless lives as part of a rich and rewarding career that offers enormous scope for personal development. In conjunction with the local authority, we are now in a position to offer the right person just such an exciting opportunity at our fantastic two-form entry primary school and nursery. Barry Primary has recently emerged from a period of instability. We are now keen to welcome an Apprentice Headteacher into the Barry family who can help us to continue our improvement journey, and build on the stronger foundations we are establishing, with the full ongoing support of the Associate Headteacher. Our ideal candidate will have upper Key Stage 2 experience, and will probably, but not necessarily, be an aspiring senior leader or existing Headteacher in a primary setting looking for a new challenge or a step up to a larger school. They will be resilient and resourceful, but equally importantly empathetic, caring passionately about our children, our parents and our wider school community. They will also be willing to regularly go the extra mile to mentor and nurture everyone in their sphere of influence, always being ready to give credit where it s due, but also prepared to engage in those difficult conversations that are unavoidable in a school striving to be the very best it can be. Through this unwavering desire to set even higher standards and make substantial, meaningful progress the Barry team aims to develop the school into a centre of excellence providing outstanding educational training opportunities, so our Apprentice Headteacher will also need a firm grasp of the bigger picture. They will need to frame that picture confidently and effectively for all stakeholders, so as well as being an astute strategist they will be a highly proficient multi-level communicator. We firmly believe that leadership of the kind we need is impossible without constant visibility, so our newcomer will be predominantly hands-on, using their outstanding interpersonal skills to calmly and competently uphold Barry s values at the school gates, in the classrooms and everywhere else where their sensitive and level-headed approach will add value. In addition to the benefit of working with an Associate Headteacher who can draw on extensive experience of our school and many others of different sizes and types, our new Apprentice Headteacher will also be surrounded by a team of talented, dedicated staff, and by polite, positively engaged children with a thirst for learning that is actively encouraged by supportive parents.
