ABC Order Activity: This activity is designed to provide students with practice in putting letters in alphabetical order. Children who are not familiar with where a letter falls in the alphabet waste a lot of instructional time searching for the letter they need. Building automaticity in alphabetizing also helps firm up knowledge of each letter and reinforce attention to each letter within a word. 1. Mix up the letters on the bottom half of the screen 2. Guide the student(s) in identifying each letter and moving them to the top half of the screen in alphabetical order. 3. Once students get a grasp on alphabetizing letters, you can begin practicing alphabetizing words. Gather word cards for this activity from the word card collections in the Decoding & Encoding section. 4. After students master first-letter alphabetizing with word, begin including practice with alphabetizing words with the same first letter.
