Curriculum Area: Maths and Numeracy Lower Key Stage Two Year 3 Euro 2016: A Welsh Curriculum Resource for 7-11 year olds
Task There are many talented famous footballers playing in Euro 2016. Using the Top Trumps game as a basis, research, design and create cards to play with your classmates.

Time Limits Introduce task and discuss information on the Top Trump card 1 lesson Understand how to create rules and create Top Trump rules for the class - 1 lesson Research missing information from the fact sheet given 1 lesson Design the back of the Top Trump cards 1 lesson Create 4 Top Trumps cards 1 lesson Play the game with your classmates following the rules created 1 lesson
Activity Breakdown 1. Introduce the activity. 2. Discuss the game Top Trumps. 3. Explain the term rules and why they are important in a game like Top Trumps. 4. Define each word on the Top Trump card. 5. Discuss the reliability of different sources (books, websites etc.). 6. Research the missing information to complete the table on each Top Trump player. 7. Hand out templates (4 Top Trump cards each). 8. Create Top Trump cards and design the back of the cards. 9. Colour and laminate, making sure each pupil s initials are written on the back of each card so that they can retrieve their cards at the end of the game. 10. Discuss why rules are important in games. 11. Decide what rules must be enforced before the game is played. E.g. do you win the card if the goals are higher or lower than your opponents? 12. Play Top Trumps against other class members.
