Cleaning house, making space, and addressing passivity (root lies and unforgiveness) LIFEGATE 10/10/21
Addressing Passivity Addressing Passivity EXTERNAL Avoidance of the conflict/process of coming into the light INTERNAL Root Lies/wounds and Unforgiveness [Both are relational issues] God is a relational He wants us to come to him
Be angry, and do not sin(Eph 4:26) Our response to anger can lead us closer or further from God. Anger is a natural response to hurt or injustice. Hate is as murder: 1 John 3:15 If anger leads you to hate, that is sin. If anger leads you to become cruel, unloving, unjust sin. A sinful manifestation of anger becomes a barrier to addressing the actual internal or relational issues.
do not let the sun go down while you are still angry. (Eph 4:26 ) -Because this leads to resentment and unforgiveness -Resentment and unforgiveness become access points for the enemy and his lies to enter in and take control -The unforgiveness/resentment reinforces negative beliefs (root lies) that are associated with the wound [Both the root lie and the unforgiveness connected to the wound and need to be addressed]
Was there a time that we ever saw Jesus get angry?
Hebrews Hebrews 4:15 4:15 15For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to sympathize and understand our weaknesses and temptations, but One who has been tempted [knowing exactly how it feels to be human] in every respect as we are, yet without [committing any] sin.
When Jesus Cleanses the Temple John 2:13-17 13Now the Passover of the Jews was approaching, so Jesus went up to Jerusalem.14And in the temple [enclosure] He found the[a]people who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers sitting at their tables.15He made a whip of cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables;16then to those who sold the doves He said, Take these things away! Stop making My Father s house a place of commerce! 17His disciples remembered that it is written [in the Scriptures], ZEAL (love, concern) FOR YOUR HOUSE [and its honor] WILL CONSUME ME. Matt 21:13 It is written, he said to them, My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of robbers.
What and Where is the Temple of the Lord Temple of the Lord today?
The Temple of the Lord: 1 Cor 6:19-20 19Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 16Don t you know that you yourselves are God s temple and that God s Spirit dwells in your midst?17If anyone destroys God s temple, God will destroy that person; for God s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.
Remember that the veil was torn! Matt 27:51 51And [at once] the veil [of the Holy of Holies] of the temple was[a]torn in two from top to bottom; the earth shook and the rocks were split apart. Hebrews 10:19-22 19Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus,20by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body,21and since we have a great priest over the house of God,22let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.
Forgiveness: Unforgiveness allows the hurt/the enemy/the Root Lie to continue to have access to your heart. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. John 8:32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
Let us come into agreement. Let us come into agreement. Matt 18:19 Again I say to you, that if two[a]believers on earth agree [that is, are of one mind, in harmony] about anything that they ask [within the will of God], it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. Col 3:13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Eph 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. James 5:16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
Addressing root lies: [Praying with a fellow believer, out load. The confession of faith is powerful] 1. Ask God/the Holy Spirit to reveal it (what it is, where it comes from) 2. Acknowledge that it exists, confess it to God. 3. Repent of unknowingly or knowingly coming into agreement with it (naming the specific lie) 4. Reject and renounce the Lie. 5. Ask God to come and break its power, and to uproot the lie. 6. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you replace the lie with the truth about who/what God says about you. 7. Thank God for what He has done, and what He is doing
Addressing Unforgiveness 1. Confess--tell God what happened (the wound), and how it made your feel. Tell him about how your have not been able to forgive. 2. Repent of the unforgiveness ask God to forgive you for holding on to resentment/unforgiveness/hatred. 3. Take a step of faith to forgive. Ask God to take it, and move in power with his Holy Spirit to heal your heart. [C.T. and the jailor]
