National Stats Guns are the leading cause of death for children and teens (age 1 to 19) Approximately 3 million children and teens are exposed to gun violence every year 95% of American public schools drill students on lockdown procedures 4.6 million children in the US live in a home with at least one unlocked and loaded firearm

  6. Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund advocates for gun safety in all 50 states and ranks the states accordingly. California has some of the strongest gun laws in the country California Stats

California Stats California ranks #1 on the Gun Safety Report Card because: #1 in removal of guns from folks who are legally prohibited from having them Requires a Background Check for handgun sales and/or permit to purchase Requires all gun dealers to obtain a state license Requires officials to identify and remove illegal guns Bans purchase of certain assault-style weapons originally designed for military use

Limitations on Purchasing Residents of California can purchase certain types of guns if they: Do not have a felony conviction Have not been convicted of a hate crime Have not been placed on an involuntary hold or deemed to be a danger to themselves or others Have not purchased another firearm in the past 30 days Have a firearm safety certificate Have complied with the 10 day waiting period Are over 18 years of age
