High housing prices and low availability pose challenges in attracting and retaining key workers in coastal locations. Traditional pathways for developing housing solutions face delays, prompting the need for innovative strategies like key worker cabins and discounted caravan park accommodations. Efforts are being made to address the accommodation shortage to support local businesses and seasonal hospitality workers.

Cost and availability is a barriers to attracting and retaining key workers The challenge we face Housing prices - 26% Rent 21 % Coastal locations are unaffordable, with the remainder increasingly unaffordable for essential industries Availability is at record lows at 0.4% Housing prices - 36% Rent 71% Housing prices - 25% Rent 36 % Housing prices - 30% Rent 7 % Housing prices - 36% - 27% Rent 33 % WARRNAMBOOL Housing prices - 20% Rent 33 % Housing prices - 25% - 45% Rent 17 %

Traditional pathway - Am C69 and C70 approved by Panels that can deliver an additional 500+ lots in Port Fairy (structure plan) and over 200 + across the Shire (rural living strategy) many years in the making 5 + years & still not through the system Council had a more immediate challenge of trying to assist on key workers for summer surge and industries crying out for accommodation options Moyne, Glenelg, Surf Coast, Corangamite, Colac Otway and Southern Grampians Shire Councils were funded by DJPR / RDV and advocated collectively on a lack of housing - this is in lock step with the RCV Blueprint. We are still hopeful of funding opportunities, many in this room involved I thank them for their work.

  4. Caravan Park offers for workers accommodation at discounted rate Marketing: promotion in the parks, ad creation and paid promotion. Tapping into alternative workforces to solve staff shortages for local business Registration form for businesses and workers List of business looking for flexible workers Connection service Seek feedback from businesses to improve the program (with Eco Dev)

  5. To attract summer seasonal hospitality workers. 19 10 workers accomodated during summer 2022/23 businesses supported during summer 2022/23 31 lodge rooms/ camp sites prioritised during busy season annually $150 per worker, per week

  7. To attract nomads, and encourage unretirement.

  8. Businesses and workers register their interest in the program, their skills and availabilities. 1. 2. Registered businesses are able to view the portal listing all available workers. 3. Businesses get in touch with their future workers.

  9. Case Study: Diane Diane enjoys the freedom of semi-retirement. She utilises her skills in mapping as a Geographic Information Service Officer three days a week in Mortlake where she stays her retro caravan at Mortlake Caravan Park.
