Background 2017-18 AY Shared Governance Retreat Academic planning one of three key action items Formation of Academic Planning Working Group 2017-18 AY activities (outcomes) Department teaching and 5-year plans Facilitated space planning for 2020 Project 2018-19 AY activities (outcomes) Established focus on path toward R1 Establishment of Indices of Success, Criteria and Measures
Values/Aspirational Goals The values/aspirational goals of the Academic Planning Process are: Transparency develop a process that is clear and easily understood Predictable develop a process that can reliably be used for future needs Integrated develop a process that is connected with other campus processes Adaptable process is living as plans can be revisited and adjusted over time to meet campus needs Accountable develop a process that can measure progress
Phases of Academic Planning Process Phase I (September 2019 January 2020) Finalize campus vision and mission statements Establish school-based values/aspirational goals VPDUE/VPDGE/UL provide Integration Plans for campus Phase II (January 2020 September 2020) Develop department level 5-year plans Aggregate department plans to school 5-year plans Phase III (September 2020 April 2021) Revise school 5-year plans Allocate resources to schools
Details of Phases Phase I Sept. 2019 January 2020 Phase II Jan. 2020 - Sept. 2020 Phase III Sept. 2020 April 2021 Review/Revise campus vision/mission statement Schools review APWG measures of the criteria under the Indices of Success Schools develop plan for local planning processes School develop values/aspirational goals statements that are aligned with Indices of Success VPDUE/VPDGE/UL submit Integration Plans for campus Values/aspirational goals statements released to campus for review Reviews returned to school for revisions Departments review 5-year plans submitted during the 2017-18 AY Schools develop localized measures for academic planning aligned with the criteria under the Indices of Success IRDS provides additional measures for campus Departments develop 5-year plans for their groups Schools assimilate 5-year plans into a school 5-year plan Schools submit draft 5-year plans Draft 5-year plans are reviewed by CAPRA, VPDUE, VPDGE, VPF, UL & VCR Office of Space Planning reviews plans Reviews returned to schools Departments revise 5-year plans Schools revise 5-year plans Schools submit revised 5- year plans CAPRA reviews revised 5- year plans and make recommendation to EVC/Provost on school allocations EVC/Provost makes allocations decisions to schools Deans determine local allocation of resources to departments

Alignment with Other Planning Academic Budget Planning Process 2021-22 AY - last year of hold harmless phase Budget projections should be based on department plans Campus Strategic Plan 2021 Accreditation requires development of campus Strategic Plan (submitted November 2021) Enrollment Strategy Program targets established during 2019-20 AY and 2020- 21 AY Space Planning Conduct review of space needs outlined in the 5-year school plans
