  1. Academic Requirements Major Requirements

  2. Your Major You have been admitted to an engineering major and you are required for follow the curriculum for that major. If you are interested in changing your major you should speak with the academic advisor in the major you wish to change into. You will not be able to change your major your first quarter and, therefore, you must follow the curriculum of the major you are enrolled in.

  3. Major Requirements Requirements for each major are specific to your curriculum year. Your curriculum year usually corresponds to the school year when you started at UCSB. Preparation for the major and major requirements for each program must be satisfied, including unit and GPA requirements. Refer to GEAR for your major requirements.

  4. What is grid? Example Grid: CHEME 2016-2017 The grid (available in GEAR) shows how you will take your courses to complete your degree in four years. If you don t follow grid or drop a required course, you could add a year to your time to degree. The College may also place you on probation if you are not following grid.

  5. First Year Grids In the final presentation, entitled First Quarter Enrollment , you will learn about how you will enroll in the fall quarter classes. Because of your AP/IB exam scores, you may be placed into a more advanced course in Writing, Math, and/or Computer Science. You may not take a more advanced course in Physics or Chemistry. You must take these courses as they appear on your grid. Four-year grids are in GEAR.
