MY VISION FOR HEAD GIRL Abby Garfield
What I intend to do: I intend to promote equality by continuing the current Head Girl s equality panel. This is to ensure everyone within RPS is represented, and everyone feels as though they have a voice. I intend to promote student voice, I would like to strengthen the voice of form representatives across all year groups. We could meet regularly to make sure all year groups feel involved with discussions. I intend to promote the well-being club, run by Katie Ellins. I would also like to make every well-being awareness day in the year a significant event within school. I could explore the possibility of working with the Ollie Foundation, finding speakers and running or organizing assemblies for these days, along with the new well-being school captains. I intend to support the SLG and all staff at RPS. I would bring other people s ideas and thoughts to meetings, and support and encourage anyone else's ideas too.
How I want to make a difference: For all of my aims of what I intend to do , I would like to make these sustainable so that they can continue after I have left RPS. This would mean inspiring younger years and possible SLG candidates to want to carry on anything I have been able to put into place with the SLG and staff. I want to inspire change and courage. It can be scary to speak up for something, so hopefully I would be able to be a role model that others can copy. I would like anyone in the school to feel as thought their ideas matter, no matter who they are or what year they are in. I want them to feel as though their suggestions could happen, and that people are really listening. As an SLG, we should really evaluate these suggestions; even if their ideas aren t followed through. We should talk about them, and find out what issues are behind these suggestions.
Why I would be a good Head Girl: I am positive and I work hard, so I would be able to fully commit to this role along with reaching my academic goals. I am active and a good leader; I am already part of an equality group, and we have already made and presented assemblies to younger years. This has improved my public speaking, so I feel more able to communicate with everyone within the school. I believe that change can and should happen, and that everyone should be a part of this process. Students have seen a lot of change happening in the world, with help from social media, and I believe students should, themselves believe, they that can instigate positive change too. I am a good listener, mentoring a year 11 student has really helped me to develop this skill. This also shows that I am supportive and passionate about helping out.
Why I aspire to be Head Girl: L Learning: I am a good learner in an academic aspect, but I would like to develop my ability to problem solve. I am creative, I thought of a quiz in the EAR assemblies to engage younger students. I Individuality: I am able to stand up to what I feel is wrong. I can plan ahead and organize myself well. I am responsible, which I have shown through co-running a drama club and taking on extra responsibilities within school. I seize all opportunities given to me, which is why I am running for this position. F Focusing: I have been inspired by the SLG since year 7, and hope to inspire others. I can meet deadlines and am determined when I create a goal. I am not afraid to admit a weakness, and am positive that I will be able to listen to input from all other members of the SLG. E Evolving with others: As shown by EAR and co-running a club, I can work well in a team and enjoy collaborating with others. I am able to communicate well, and will always be respectful towards other people s views and ideas. Lastly, I value others, and the school, which is why I hope to give something back to the community that has supported me for my 6 years at RPS so far.
