  1. GGS Plogathon 2021 Info deck Since 1926, World Thinking Day is a day of international friendship, where 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 150 countries come together to advocate for what they believe in and to fundraise for the Guiding Movement. This year, with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) #13: Climate Action in mind, Girl Guides Singapore is organising a Plogathon!

  2. ABOUT GGS PLOGATHON 2021 What is a Plogathon? If marathon is a long-distance running race, then plogathon is a long-distance plogging race! Plogging is a combination of two words: jogging and the Swedish phrase "plokka upp," which means pick up. Started in Sweden in 2016, it is basically an eco-friendly exercise where one picks up litter while working out. Simply go for a walk or a jog with tongs, gloves and trash bags to contain the litter you ve picked up and you re set! Why plog? Plastic pollution is real. When trash don t end up in bins, they eventually make their way into the ocean. Over 80 percent of plastic litter that ends up polluting the oceans comes from land. Plogging is a simple way for all of us to do our part in reducing the environmental impact of plastic waste while jogging or hiking with friends and family.

  3. As an organisation, our goal is to collectively plog 1,000,000 km to strengthen the momentum of Climate Action in Singapore while raising funds for GGS mission in developing girls to their fullest potential. Let s achieve our goal by bringing along our friends and family to join us on our plogs and pledge $20 in support of our plogging efforts! All participating schools are entitled to PNAA Points. Winning schools will be entitled to claim points under the Competition component of PNAA.

  9. FAQ

  10. ABOUT GGS PLOGATHON 2021 Is this Plogathon open to the public? No. Currently, only schools and members of Girl Guides Singapore are able to register an account on the website. Members of the public may show their support via a donation or join our members on their plog to have their distance clocked under one of our school or member account. How many kilometers are we supposed to pledge? You may pledge a distance that you are confident in achieving collectively as a school. As a general guide, we encourage each girl to plog at least 5km a month i.e. 15km/girl during the Plogathon period (27 Mar 2 Jul). If they are able to bring along 1 friend to each plog, the number goes up to 30km/girl. Multiply the figure by the number of girls in your unit to get the recommended pledge distance. What if we are unable to complete the pledged distance? We encourage all units to try their best but there will be no penalty for not completing the pledged distance. Schools that are able to complete the pledged distance will be entitled to a completion e-certificate at the end. All units will be entitled to participation PNAA points regardless of their completion status.

  13. RECORDING YOUR PLOG How do I update the distance I have plogged? Log into your account and update accordingly based on distance plogged multiplied by the number of people who plogged together. There is only one account for each school. How will the girls submit their plogged distance? This is up to each school s arrangement. If the girls are able to upload their plog independently, Guiders may allow the girls to access the account to do so. Kindly provide 24hrs for your plog to be reflected on your profile page and do not submit more than once for each completed plog. I have accidentally entered and submitted the wrong distance plogged. What should I do? If you have entered less km than you should have, you may submit another entry to make up the correct distance. If you have entered more km than you should have, kindly write in to lena@girlguides.org.sg and we will rectify the records from our end. I forgot to submit my plog before 2 July 2021.
