  1. 2.2.21 WALT: count the sides of 2D shapes. Steps to success: *I can describe 2D shapes according to the number of sides. *I can identify a shape by the number of sides.

  2. Fluency Complete the table. Name Shape Number of sides 3 Square 3 Triangle 5 Pentagon

  3. Fluency Complete the table. Name Shape Number of sides 6 Hexagon 4 Rectangle 8 Octagon

  4. Fluency Which shapes have 4 sides?

  5. A 4-sided shape is called a quadrilateral. rectangle trapezium square parallelogram rhombus kite

  6. Fluency I am thinking of a shape. I have 5 sides. What shape am I? Pentagon

  7. Fluency I am thinking of a shape. I have more than 7 sides. What shape am I? Octagon

  8. Fluency I am thinking of a shape. I have less than 3 sides. What shape am I? Circle

  9. What is a 7-sided shape called? Heptagon

  10. Reasoning Which shape is the odd one out? Explain how you know. The odd shape out is the green shape as this has 5 sides. All the other shapes have 4 sides.

  11. Problem solving Here are 30 sticks How many pentagons could you make from this? We can make 6 pentagons from 30 sticks. A pentagon has 5 sides. 6 lots of 5 make 30 or 6 x 5 = 30.
