  3. INTRODUCTION Place The value of each digit depends on its position or place in the number. Every digit has a place. For example.3,245 The place of digit 4 is tens. Place Value It is the value of a digit formed by multiplying its place and face value. For example:- 3,245 The place value of digit 4 is 40. Place value of a digit = ( Its face value) (Value of the place) Successor A number which comes after a given number is itssuccessor.   8. Place Value/Face Value Each digit in a number has a place value and a face value. In the number 4856, the digit 4 is in the thousands place value. Meaning the place value is thousands. The number you see (4) is the face value. Face value is 4 4856 Place value is thousands

  23. COMPARISON OF NUMBERS In order to compare two numbers, we adopt the following rulers:- RULE 1:- The number with less digits is less than the number with more digits. RULE 2:- Suppose we have to compare two numbers having the same numbers of digits than we proceed as under Step 1- First compare the digits at the leftmost place in both the numbers. Step 2- If they are equal in value then compare the second digits from the left. Step 3- if the second digits from the left are equal then compare the third digits from the left. Step 4- continue until you come across unequal digits at the corresponding places. Clearly, the number with greater such digit is the greater of thetwo.
