  2. BASICS OF THE CHAPTER BASICS OF THE CHAPTER One thousand Place Place value Expanded from Predecessor & Successor Ordering of numbers

  3. NUMBERS THAT WE KNOW UPTO NUMBERS THAT WE KNOW UPTO 999 999 Let' us know numbers beyond 999 One more than greatest 3- digit number i, e 999 + 1 = 1000(Smallest 4- digit number)

  4. PLACES PLACES Every digit has a particular place in a number. Let's take 1489

  5. PLACES IN ABACUS PLACES IN ABACUS Places of a four digit number-4123 4-Thousands , 1-Hundreds , 2-Tens , 3-Ones

  6. POWER OF THE PLACES POWER OF THE PLACES 10 ones = 1 ten 10 tens = 1 hundred 10 hundreds = 1 thousand

  7. PLACE VALUE PLACE VALUE Place value - The value obtained as the product of the digit itself and it's place in the number.

  8. UNDERSTANDING PLACE VALUE UNDERSTANDING PLACE VALUE 1-thousand or 1000 ,2 - hundred or 200 , 3- tens or 30 , 7-ones or 7

  9. PLACE VALUE OF A PLACE VALUE OF A NUMERAL NUMERAL Consider a numeral 5623 The place value of 3 is 3 ones =3 The place value of 2 is 2 tens =20 The place value of 6 is 6 hundreds = 600 The place value of 5 is 5 thousads = 5000

  10. EXPANDED FORM The way of writing a numeral as the sum of the place values of its digits.

  11. WRITING THE EXPANDED WRITING THE EXPANDED FORM...... FORM......

  12. EXPANDED FORM IN 2 WAYS.. EXPANDED FORM IN 2 WAYS.. Let us consider 4567 4567=4thousand+5hundred+6tens+7ones = 4000 + 500 + 60 + 7

  13. SUCCESSOR & PREDECESSOR SUCCESSOR & PREDECESSOR Successor is the number that comes just after a particular number Or the next number. Successor of 4699 = 4699+1= 4700 Predecessor is the number that comes just before a particular number Or the previous number. Predecessor of 4699= 4699-1= 4698

  14. COMPARISON OF NUMBERS COMPARISON OF NUMBERS COMPARING TWO NUMBERS Step-I : Compare the number of digits in the given numerals. Step-II : If both have same number of digits compare the digits at greatest place. Step-III : If they are same, compare the next place and so on ...... Exp: 3547 & 3574 , In th. Place 3=3 , hundreds place 5=5 but in tens place 4<7, hence 3547 < 3574
