  1. Game: Parade of Flags Source: This game was found in the book titled Do-It-Yourself Team Building Games, Icebreakers, Energizers, and Closing Activities which was compiled by David Greenberg

  2. Overview Game: Parade of Flags Type of Game: An icebreaker that allows participants to get to know each other and to find a group identity. Length: 15-25 minutes Target Audience: Anyone! Whether it be clinical and administrative staff, quality improvement team members, managers, or people with HIV. This game is geared towards people who are looking to learn or get to know each other. Learning Objectives Engage participants in an interactive icebreaker. Encourage creativity and self-expression among participants. Become more familiar with fellow team members. Agenda 1. Setting the stage for the interactive exercise. 2. Playing the Parade of Flags game. 3. Debrief and discussion on what lessons learned are and how they apply to HIV care. 4. Feedback and close.   3. Parade of Flags Step 1: Provide brief introduction of the game to participants. Step 2: You have 4-5 minutes to individually design and draw a flag that depicts who participants really are. creativity is encouraged! Express your personality, work style, value, and role on the team. Include a motto or slogan that represents you. Step 3: Instruct the entire group (or use smaller groups in breakout groups) to create one team flag incorporating elements from all the individual flags, as well as one team motto or slogan. Step 4: Once the allotted time has elapsed, present and explain the team flag. 3

  4. Debriefing What did you observe? Any trends? Comments? Reflections? What did you learn about your team members as a result of their individual flags? How was it decided what would be included in the group flag? Was everyone included equally in the group s flag? How does this activity remind you of our group s dynamics in the workplace? How can the conclusions of this process/game be applied to your HIV care and/or HIV program? 4
