What is Maryland Promise? Maryland Promise is a state scholarship that will cover up to $5,000 worth of tuition and fee expenses. This opportunity is available to students who meet certain criteria and plan to pursue specific programs at their local community college. More information is available here.

Maryland Promise Eligibility Criteria Must complete high school in Maryland/earn a GED in Maryland Must be eligible for in-state tuition Must meet minimum GPA standards High school applicants must earn an unweighted GPA of at least a 2.3 Students currently/previously enrolled at a community college must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 Must pursue an eligible program: a credit-bearing vocational certificate; a credit-bearing certificate; an associate degree; a sequence of credit/non-credit courses that leads to licensure/certification; a registered apprenticeship program

Maryland Promise Eligibility Criteria Continued Must meet adjusted gross income (AGI) requirements for 2020 Single student/dependent student in a single-parent household = $100,000 Married student/dependent student in a two-parent household = $150,000 Must submit the FAFSA or MSFAA by 3/1/2022 Must not have earned an associate or bachelor s degree May not have other federal and/or state aid that covers full cost of tuition and fees at the community college Must attend the local community college unless the local community college does not offer the particular program the student is pursuing Must submit all documents requested by MHEC-OSFA by 7/15/2022

Keep in Mind In prior years, Promise was not awarded until after the non-payment drop date, so families should prepare to pay the balance out of pocket/set up a payment plan until Promise is confirmed Promise is not guaranteed there are funding limitations! Maryland Promise does not cover the cost of books/supplies Opportunity is available for students who wish to pursue specific Continuing Education Workforce Development programs separate application is required! Students pursuing a credit program must complete at least 12 credit hours per semester

MDCAPS Check Your Application Status MHEC will list any required documents they need from you Enrollment Students can update their enrollment status & school Awards Students must log into MDCAPS to accept any offered awards New Electronic File Upload This is where students will go to upload documents that MHEC is requesting.
