BIRDS OF PREY Vocabulary
BIRD OF PREY a bird, such as an eagle or a hawk, that kills and eats small birds and animals Prey: an animal that is hunted and killed for food by another animal
SCAVENGER a bird or animal which feeds on dead animals which it has not killed itself Carrion: dead meat
MORE WORDS Perch: Where a bird sits Raptor : another word for bird of prey Nocturnal: active at night like an owl Extinct: a species or type of animal dies out
EXPRESSIONS eagle eye (noun) If someone has an eagle eye, they notice everything, even very small details. We sat down and started the exam under the eagle eye of the teacher. eagle-eyed (adjective) My eagle-eyed mother noticed that some cakes had gone missing.
SWOOP to move very quickly and easily through the air, especially down from a height in order to attack The eagle swooped down to snatch a young rabbit The peregrine falcon swoops at over 180mph
