  1. APA 7thed. Information Management Program April, 2023

  2. Information Management Program All information management courses will use APA 7thedition as their citation style

  3. Citation style For every source paraphrased, summarised or directly quoted there should be an in-text cite. Figures, tables or any type of visual material also need be cited or referenced (this includes pictures). The in-text cite regardless of type (APA 7thedition) will be within the sentence. Example: According to Sokolowski (2000) phenomenology is the study of human experience (p. 2). He goes on to discuss the different attributes of phenomenology and how the philosophy is confronting to modern thought (Sokolowski, 2000).

  4. Reference List Provide a reference list not a bibliography A reference list is just the sources cited in the paper in alphabetical order A bibliography is everything consulted and may not be cited Reference lists on assignments are spot checked to make sure they match Using End Note or other citation software is fine but remember that it is fallible and must be checked for citation style accuracy

  5. APA Style APA = American Psychological Association 7thEdition is currently prominent Dominant in the LIS profession Hanging indentation of 1.27 cm (0.5 inches) Should be one of the many citation styles in your professional arsenal Most major LIS journals use APA Chicago Style, 17thedition, is the second most used style in our profession

  6. In-text Citation Style Direct Quotations: (Author, Date, Page) Paraphrase or summarisation: (Author, Date) Citing two or more authors in alphabetical order: (Davis, 2015; Jones, 2014; Smith, 2020) If there are three of more authors of a book, it should be cited as: (Jones et al., 2020) If an author has two or more sources from the same year, use letter to differentiate them: (Davis, 2015a, 2015b) If there is use of one author throughout a paragraph, there is no need to continue to repeat the date but just the author s last name. If you are not sure about citing, cite it.
