  1. Extra activities about the Gruffalo.

  2. In class, we have been learning about adjectives. Read the writing about the Gruffalo and can you find the adjectives (describing words)? Underline the adjectives. Count how many adjectives that you have found.

  3. Can you describe The Gruffalo?

  4. Ideas to use with these pictures. Make finger puppets. Put the characters into the correct order and retell the story in your own words. Describe the character. Find out about each of the characters and create a fact file (non fiction book) for each one.

Gruffalo (non-cook) Crumble cake Ingredients 400g digestive biscuits 150g milk chocolate 150g dark chocolate 100g butter 75g / half a cup golden syrup 70g dried apricots (orange eyes) 70g raisins (black tongues) Method: 1) Place biscuits in a food bag and, using a rolling pin, squash into small pieces. 2) Ask an adult to do this. In a glass bowl, melt the chocolate, butter and golden syrup over a pan of simmering water. 3) When melted, remove the bowl from the heat and add in all the dry ingredients. Mix well. 4) Spoon the mixture into a silicone tin or otherwise line a shallow square tin with cling film. 5) Using the back of a large spoon or potato masher, press down on the mixture to level and compact. 6) Put in the fridge for 2 hours to set. 7) Cut into squares and enjoy your Gruffalo Crumble cake

Chocolate Play-Dough Recipe Ingredients: 2 cups plain flour 1 cup salt (table salt- approx. the size of two 20pence coins) 1/2 cup cocoa powder 2 tbsps vegetable oil 2 tbsps cream of tartar 2 cups of boiling water Method: 1. Combine all of the dry ingredients in a bowl 2. Stir in the vegetable oil 3. Mix together 4. Stir in the boiling water (adult only) and mix until combined 5. When it has cooled a little, knead it on a clean surface until it loses all stickiness and becomes smooth and stretchy. No residue should come off on your fingers. If it is still sticky add a little more flour, if too dry and crumbly add more water, a tablespoon at a time
