Title IX and Discrimination Title IX = Sexual Harassmentment, Sexual Misconduct, Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Stalking, Retaliation (for such complaints) Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) Interim Policy and Procedures on Sexual Harassment, Sexual Assault, Sexual Misconduct, Dating Violence, Domestic Violence and Stalking Effective August 14, 2020 Discrimination: Gender, Age, Race, Sexual Orientation, Veteran Status, Religion, Pregnancy, etc.

  3. Discrimination Contact OEC and report OEC will contact complaining party They decide if they want to go forward Technically not mandated reporting, but .

  4. Title IX Sexual Harassment Comments, jokes, pressuring someone for dates, touching, etc. Sexual Assault Rape, Fondling of sex organs, etc. Sexual Misconduct Pretty much everything else Dating Violence Violence between people who are dating Domestic Violence Violence between others with a domestic relationship Stalking 2 or more actions Retaliation For reporting, participating in, or not participating in a case of the above

  5. Reporting SAFE.SIU.EDU Crime Reporting Form Mandated Reporters Report! Report! Report! When in doubt, REPORT! Even if you think someone else reported, if you weren t there when they did, REPORT! OEC needs as much info as you have We may contact you for more if you don t provide enough Cannot be anonymous!

  6. Procedure Get a SAFE report, Police Report, or Walk-In There are not formal complaints Reach out by email to complainant/victim/survivor with information OEC and Confidential Advisor That person can choose to contact us or not That person can get accommodations without speaking to us for filing a complaint If they want to file a complaint, they must speak to us and sign a complaint against the accused/Respondent Or Title IX Coordinator may file We start the process after that Call in Respondent Call Witnesses Etc.

  7. What To Do When Someone Comes To You With a Complaint? REPORT at SAFE.SIU.EDU Tell the complainant that you must report These reports go to OEC, Clery, and Confidential Advisors Be prepared to be a possible witness Tell Complaining Party about Counseling, Confidential Advisors Look on OEC website (equity.siu.edu) for the SAFE brochure which you can print and give to the complainant Report to your superiors If something is in progress, CALL 911 If something is not in progress, complainant should decide if they want to call 911

  8. What not to do Don t blame complainant Don t Investigate! Don t wait to file a Crime Reporting Form Don t tell anyone you don t have to report You MUST report. You are a mandated reporter Don t leave out information in your SAFE Report/Crime Reporting form Don t put words in someone s mouth. Just listen to what they tell you and report that Don t make up stuff. If you can t remember the next steps, don t make them up. Just be honest with the Complainant and try to get them to a knowledgeable resource

Tips Don t date or try to date students or people you supervise Consenting Relationships policy Going to be seen as sexual harassment Don t touch anyone Don t use phone numbers, social media, etc, to contact people after hours You might be trying to be helpful, but a student may see that as Creepy and report you Be professional Treat people with respect Be constructive Keep Documentation
