  1. Year 1 Friends, Secrets and People who can help us

  2. Learning Objective I can talk about my feelings about friends. I can have some ideas about how to deal with negative behaviours I know where to go for help if I am worried about secrets

  3. Warm up Imagine that you have no friends and are surrounded by children you don t know. How do you feel? How do you move? Where do you look? Next, imagine you have just seen some friends. How do you feel/move, where do you look?

  4. Watch the video story I Am Too Absolutely Small for School by Lauren Child,

  5. Activity 1 Imagine that they are starting in a new school and they have no friends. Think about how you would choose their new friends. Write a list of ideas of what you would look for in a new friend (e.g. looks nice, is friendly, makes me feel happy, has good ideas and so on).

  6. Activity 2 Agree or disagree Look at the statements Which of these are good things to say to a new friend?

  7. Task 3 Secrets What is a secret? What are some examples of 'good secrets'? Think of 3 examples e.g planning a surprise birthday party What are some examples of 'bad secrets'? Think of 3 examples e.g a bully stole their sweets and made them promise not to tell

  8. Task 4 People who can help me Here are some people who help us. Who could help you if you were worried about a secret someone had asked you to keep? Draw a picture of the people who could help you.

  9. The say NO! game Which of these statements would you say NO! to?

  10. What do you feel/look like when you are with your friends? How do you decide who will be your friend? Are your friends always perfect? Can you ever say no to your friends? Can you have more than one really good friend? Do you always have to be with your friends? Thinking time

  11. Where can I get help and support? Talk to any grown up you trust Your academy- staff, website
