  1. BATTLE OF THE BOOKS 2018-19 C

  2. What is Battle of the Books? . Purpose: The purpose of the Middle School Battle of the Books is to encourage reading and expose students of all ability levels to quality literature representing a variety of genres and viewpoints. The game format is intended to create interest and excitement. Students should remember that the intent is to read, not necessarily to win. Format: The format of the competition is a quiz bowl style question and answer session. Each competitor will be asked a question related to a specific book on the list and will need to respond with the correct title and author of the book. All questions begin with In Which Book Teams: Teams will consist of a maximum of 12 members. It is open to 6th, 7thand 8thgrades. Six students will compete per round.   3. Other Information Tryouts: It will take several weeks to determine the team. Determinations to be on the team will be based on: *Begin reading the 27 titles. Read as many as possible by the end of February. *Complete a plot diagram after you read each book. Diagrams are available in the media center on top of the Battle of the Books shelf. Turn in completed diagrams to Mrs. Townsend or Take a comprehension quiz on www.mybobteam.com. *Begin to memorize the 27 titles and authors as written on the book list. There will be a quiz on them on Oct. 24. Make at least 70% on quiz. *Be able to attend after school practices once a week from 3:00-4:00.

  4. Deadlines Read one book total & comprehension quiz or plot diagram by Oct. 10. Read two books total & quiz or plot diagram by Oct. 17. Make at least 70% on Title/Author Quiz on Oct. 24. Read three books total & quiz/plot diagram by Oct. 31. *Once team is figured out, you will sign up for 6 expert books.

  8. Reading Logs & Folders Each student has a folder with their name. I keep comprehension quiz scores & plot diagrams for each student. Mark off which books you have read. (Make sure to get a plot diagram or take a comprehension quiz for those books). Turn in completed plot diagrams to Mrs. Townsend. (Pass out Reading logs, plot diagrams)
