  1. WEEK 20 DAY 1 RESOLVE, COMPEL, COMPLY

  2. In 1836, the US government tried to resolve its Indian problem by giving the eastern Native American tribes 2 years to move westward from their homelands. Excerpt from Survival and Loss: Native American Boarding Schools

  3. The US had a problem: -Settlers wanted the land the Native Americans lived on Resolve: Find an answer to a solution or problem -So the government tried to resolve this problem by requiring the Native Americans move west.

  4. PEOPLE RESOLVE, OR FIND ANSWERS OR SOLUTIONS TO, PROBLEMS EVERYDAY

  5. What is a problem you have resolved recently? How did you resolve the problem? Use the word resolve in your response.

  6. Talk to your partner about how you would resolve these problems. Use the word resolve in your responses. You lost your house key and nobody is home. You arrive home after school and your cat is stuck in a tree.

  8. The US government told the Native Americans that if they did not move westward within two years they would be compelled, or forced, to leave. The word force from the excerpt is a synonym of the word compel.

  9. SOMETIMES PEOPLE ARE COMPELLED, OR FORCED TO DO THINGS THEY DO NOT WANT TO DO
