  1. Drill Schedules John Jay High School Mrs. Varian SHELL

  2. Shelter in Place (for weather emergency) A Shelter in Place will be announced by the P.A. System or intercom. All persons will file into the hall and line up against the wall facing the center corridor away from glass and doors. Leave belongings in the room and shut the door. REMAIN SILENT Faculty and staff are to remain in their position until further instruction is given or safety is compromised.

  3. Hold in Place (for medical emergency or cleanup) A Hold in Place will be announced by the P.A. System or intercom. Students in the hallway should quickly make their way back to their classroom. Teachers may continue instruction and it is not necessary to turn off lights or cover windows. Faculty and staff are to remain in their location until an announcement is made.

  4. Evacutation (Fire Drill) At the sound of the alarm, students are to remain silent and quickly exit the classroom going toward the stairs to the first floor. Exit at the rear of the science building and continue walking toward the far left of the grassed area for check-in. Attendance must be taken before students are allowed to mingle. Teachers will close the classroom windows, turn off all lights and electrical equipment, and lock the classro0m door. Be attentivefor administrators signal for the return to the building.

  5. Lockout (Safer Inside) All outdoor activities must stop and immediately be moved indoors and the building locked. Normal activity will continue within the building unless directed otherwise. Do not respond to the fire alarm unless actual signs of fire are observed or an announcement is made. Lockout will end when notification is made by administration.

  6. Lockdown (Outside Threat) The procedure for a lockdown will begin by an announcement on the P.A. system or intercom. Teachers should gather students from hallways and restrooms if safe to go outside the classroom. Classroom doors are to be locked and students/staff move to the designated safe area of the room. ***All must REMAIN SILENT*** Lockdown will end only when we are physically released from the room by law enforcement!

  7. Bus Drill Student will be dismissed five minutes early from 8th period. All student must participate. Students who plan on staying after regular school hours will be given the opportunity to disembark upon conclusion of the drill. Bus drivers will read the instructions for the drill to students and assist them through all drill procedures. Teachers will be present to assist with general supervision of students and sign the bus driver s sheet.
