BTEC PERFORMING ARTS BTEC PERFORMING ARTS - - DRAMA DRAMA Taking drama means; learning to work within a team, learning to balance a mixture of ideas, evaluating them all and picking out the best one to analyse. It gives students a way to have their voices heard and it gives them a safe space to build confidence. It means being CREATIVE!

  2. BTEC Tech Award Level 2 in Performing Arts Drama The course gives students the opportunity to develop subject specific knowledge and skills through realistic vocational contexts. Students will have the opportunity to develop in the following areas: Development of their own key skills in performing arts, such as reproducing scripted work and responding to stimuli and devising Processes that support effective ways of working in the performing arts, such as development of ideas, rehearsal and performance Attitudes that are considered most important in the performing arts, including personal management and communication Knowledge that strengthens effective use of skills, processes and attitudes in the industry, such as roles, responsibilities, performance disciplines and styles.   3. What does the course cover? Component 1: Exploring the Performing Arts Students will explore a range of different plays and styles of drama such as; Naturalism, Physical Theatre, Epic Theatre and Verbatim. Students will practically and theoretically study how work was created by professionals learning how the play was first produced, all the way through to how it was put on stage and the impact that this had on audiences. They will reflect on the journey taken by professionals by producing a portfolio of their research and learning, focusing on one of the plays explored. Component 2: Developing Skills and Techniques in the Performing Arts Students will practically explore a play and learn how to develop their acting skills and techniques in line with the style, play and their character. Their progress of skills techniques and knowledge will be documented along the way, and as part of written reviews at the end of the component. Students will learn what is required of an actor when attending rehearsals, learning lines, and creating, developing and performing a character to an audience, to create a desired effect. Component 3: Responding to a Brief Students will at the end of the course, respond to a set brief. They will create their own devised performance in groups, taking ownership of their own development and piece. They will use all their knowledge gained from the course to showcase their skills and knowledge, performing their own devised performance to a target audience. Students will document their progress throughout this component through written logs.

Learners who achieve at Level 2 across their Key Stage 4 learning might consider progression to: A Levels as preparation for entry to higher education in a range of subjects Study of a vocational qualification at Level 3, such as a BTEC National in Performing Arts, which prepares students to enter employment or apprenticeships, or to move on to higher education by studying a degree in the performing arts or production arts areas.
