  4. Objectives of Thematic Networks under ACE Impact Overall Goal: To advance cutting edge research hence broadening ACEs contribution to the knowledge base Objective 1: To accelerate scientific research activities anchored in world class academic practices Objective 2: To deepen partnerships among ACE Impact centres and collaborators across the continent Objective 3: Create interlinked specialized research centers across ACE Institutions

  5. ACE Impact Thematic Networks Arrangement, Benefits and Outcomes Expected Outcomes Expected Benefits Network Constitution Increased research outputs Strengthen faculty capacity Impact oriented interventions (due to new Knowledge) Guided by thematic Networks BUT should be outside the PARTNER Network Institutional capacity strengthened Reinforcement of existing research teams in STEM among others Resource mobilisation as alternative funding for scientists Teams Include: Professors, Graduate & undergraduate students, Regional/International Partners (research institutions or Industry) Research Partnerships Improved quality of research Diversity and achieving equity Address Salient Issues Networks will be supported by Subject Matter Experts Increased female participation

  6. Eligibility & Requirements The network should be outside the PARTNER networks. The initiative is designed to allow more centres participate in the networking activities. The networks should examine clear problems of regional importance aligning to the ACE Impact project development objectives and address empirical questions that will increase the understanding of fundamental issues leading to significant improvements in policy and practice. The network should have submitted a comprehensive concrete plan of activities (and expected results) to implement taking into account of the objectives of these thematic networks ( also include what they have been doing in terms of networking building on existing engagements). The six thematic networks are eligible for the funding namely; Agriculture, Health (outside of infectious diseases; Colleges of Engineering; Education, Energy, Urban and Transport; and Environment. Clear Governance arrangement for the implementation of the thematic network (example nominating a lead coordinating centre).

  7. Funding ACE Impact has allocated $600,000.00 USD to support the work of the networks. Networks can apply for between $50,000 - $10,000USD as seed funding (towards additional fund mobilisation). Activities for funding can include student and faculty symposia, seminars, joint resource mobilisation, joint research coordination, exchange activities, capacity building and publication etc. Competitive concepts that meet the criteria will be considered for funding.
