  5. Learning outcomes: After you have studied this lesson, you will be able to- 1. ask and answer some questions. 3. write the answers to some questions. 4. make a list of words to describe the three birds. 5. write the moral of the story.

New words Gracious (adj)= kind Noble (adj) = great Deserve (verb)= have the right to enjoy Hospitality(noun)= the quality of giving entertainment to someone Ungrateful (adj)=not grateful Echo (verb)= say something again Vicious (adj)=bad/not honest Leathery (adj)= full of leather Vain (adj)=helpless

  7. Section: a Look at the picture and ask and answer the questions. 1. What do you see? 2. How do the three birds look? 3. Why do you think they look so? 4. Who looks very happy? Why?

  8. Section: b Read the passage and write the answer to the following questions: 1. Why did the bat say that he was ashamed of the dove? 2. Why was the owl angry with the dove? 3. What did the owl and the bat do to the dove? 4. How were the bat and the owl punished at the end? 5. What reward did the dove get? Answers: 1. The bat said that he was ashamed of the dove because the dove did not praise the owl. 2. The owl was angry with the dove because the dove did not say anything to praise the owl. 3. The owl and the bat fell upon the dove drove her out into the dark and stormy night. 4. The bat can not fly during daytime and so he has to wait till evening. The owl can not hunt for food during daytime. So, they have to live in darkness with their dark heart. 5. The name of the dove will be used by poets as long as the world exists to rhyme with LOVE.

  9. Section: c Make a list of the words used in the story to describe the three birds. Add some of your own words. Owl: grumpy, powerful, mighty, wise, brave, generous, impatient, kind, master, wise, hospitality, vain, blind, Bat: hungry, tired, greedy, flatterer, leathery, heartless, vicious, Dove: hungry, tired, ashamed, grateful, ungrateful, little, truthful, rewarded,

  10. section: d Group work Discuss in groups and write the moral of the story.

  11. Home work Write a story using the following clues: A dove and a bad----on a journey------ took shelter in an owl s nest--------- the praise of the bat--------feeling ashamed of the dove--------- turning out the dove------punishment of the bat and the owl----- the reward of the dove.
