Bell Ringer Who is your favorite TV, book, or movie character? What movie, book, or show are they from? What kind of characteristics does your character have? Tell me five of their characteristics or traits.

Round/Flat Characters A ROUND character is complex. They have many different traits. A FLAT character only has one or two person traits.

ROUND OR FLAT?

We know Woody is loyal and a good friend However, he isn't perfect and there are times we see his flaws He can act jealous from time to time He is a complicated character! Woody- Round

ROUND OR FLAT?

We see him as a young boy when he dreams of adventure Mr. Fredrickson likes to travel We see his personality as he grows older with his wife We understand his motivation when he wants to preserve his house after his wife's death. Mr. Fredrickson- Round

ROUND OR FLAT?

He is not around very long We don't really understand why he does what he does His motivations are simple...he is hungry and wants to eat Bruce-Flat

ROUND OR FLAT?

We don't really understand why he does what he does We aren't given a lot of information on him His motivations are simple...he doesn't want to get eaten The Gingerbread Man from Shrek-Flat

Dynamic/Static Characters A STATIC character doesn t change throughout the course of the story. They are the exact same person in the end as they were in the beginning. A DYNAMIC character changes through the story. They are usually main characters.

STATIC OR DYNAMIC?

At the beginning of the story, Cinderella is kind, hardworking, and gentle. At the end of the story, she is still all those things and her experiences didn t change her. Cinderella- Static

STATIC OR DYNAMIC?

At the beginning of the story, Shrek is really closed off and doesn't want any contact with people. As the story goes on, he becomes softer and lets more people into his life. Shrek- Dynamic

STATIC OR DYNAMIC?

At the beginning of the story, Gru is selfish and he is set on destroying the world. As the story goes on, he becomes a loving father who would do anything for his daughters. Gru-Dynamic

STATIC OR DYNAMIC?

At the beginning of the story, he is evil and mean. He plots to kill Simba and his father. Sadly, his character doesn't change and he is still evil at the end of the story. Scar-Static
