In condensed matter physics, Bremmstrahlung X-rays and characteristic X-rays are produced through different interactions of high-speed electrons with nuclei in target atoms. Bremmstrahlung radiation is generated when electrons slow down near the nucleus, while characteristic radiation is produced when electrons from the lament collide with an electron in the target atom's orbit, creating vacancies that release energy in the form of characteristic X-ray photons. These X-rays exhibit distinct spectra, with Bremmstrahlung having a continuous range of energies and characteristic X-rays possessing fixed energies.

  1. Ismail Sk Assistant Professor, Department of Physics Bajkul Milani Mahavidyala Condensed matter Physics, 5th Sem Lecture 2: 1 hr Bremmstrahlung X-Rays: Two types of X-ray are produced, majority are called Bremmstrahlung radiation and others are called characteristic radiation. Bremmstrahlung X-ray are produced when high speed electron slow down i.e interact with the nucleus or closed to the nucleus because of strong electric field between nuclei and electron. Higher the speed of electrons crossing the target, higher the x-rays are produced. Several interaction are possible with different nuclei before loose all energy of electrons.

  2. Characteristic X-Rays Characteristic x-ray are produced when high speed electron from the lament collide with an electron one of the orbit of target atom then its create vacancy in the orbit which is called by another electron from higher orbit and release energy in the form characteristic x-ray photon with energy equal to the deference between the binding energy of electronic shell.

  3. Bremmstrahlung and Characteristic X-Ray Spectrum Bremmestrahlung energies range from zero to peak and back to zero are called continuous spectrum. Characteristic x-rays have fixed or discrete energies
