  1. What is MDST (multilingual digital storytelling)? A form of multilingual, multimodal life writing about personal and shared experiences making use of digital tools. Combining different modalities: audio (music, voiceover, narration) visual (still/moving images) text (subtitles) short video (3-5 mins) using editing software: Photostory, Moviemaker, iMovie .

  2. MULTILINGUAL INTERCULTURAL (voiceover: target languages; subtitles: English) (EAL ) Genres: slideshows, photo stories, drama, documentary, animation, puppet shows . shared = directed at a real audience Authentic context Cross curriculum School as basecamp (linking learning in school, home and community contexts) Collaboration, active citizenship, problem solving skills, critical thinking, creativity Has great potential for engaging young people in learning 2

  3. In what ways can you approach multilingual digital storytelling with children and young people? Start with questions: what are digital stories? Show them some examples of digital stories created in the previous years and ask for feedback Discuss the theme with them: visual prompts .. Examples with Europa School: 3

Our Planet Nature protecting nature and wildlife living in harmony with nature stories showing what and how nature teaches us respecting diversity in the planet Animal rights fighting cruelty towards animals animals facing extinction Environmental activism recycling; plastic in the oceans harming fish, birds etc; reducing pollution climate change Swedish schoolgirl climate campaigner shift to electric cars encouraging cycling connections of indigenous people with the land link to school campaigns
