  8. 26 March, our Independence Day, is the biggest state festival. It is a national holiday

  9. The day is celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour The day begins with 31 gun salute

  10. Early in the morning the President and the Prime Minister place floral wreaths on behalf of the nation

  11. Then other leaders, political parties, diplomats, social and cultural organisations, educational institutions and freedom fighters pay homage to the martyrs

  12. There are many cultural programmes throughout the day highlighting the heroic struggle and sacrifice in 1971

  13. The country witness a spectacular parade of defence forces, border guards, police, ansars and VDP

  14. In Bangabandhu National Stadium School children, scouts and girls guides take part in various displays

  15. Exciting boat race is held in the river Buriganga

  16. All major public buildings are illuminated with colourful lights
