World Postal Day World postal day Is celebrated on 9th October each year , the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern , Switzerland. The Indian Postal service was founded on 1stApril 1854; about 162 years ago, serving the country for over 150 years and it continues. It was declared World Postal Day by the UPUCongress held in Tokyo, Japan in 1969 Since then, Countries across the world participate annually in the celebrations.
Purpose of World Postal Day The purpose of World Postal Day is to create awareness of the role of the postal sector In people's life and business and to contribute to the social and economic development
Celebration in Postal Day Many things happen on this day. Post offices in some countries hold special stamp collection exhibitions; there are open days at postal measures and there are workshops on postal history. The UPU organizes an international letter writing competition for young people.
